Astronomy Jan 21, 2013

Jupiter and the Moon were doing a dance together and while I’d taken an early picture of them together, my sister asked if I was going to get another shot at their closest approach.  Well, of course. 😉

While outside I took the time to pull the scope out into the driveway and attempt a few shots of M42.  Came away with one halfway decent shot taken at ISO 1600 for 30 seconds.

Interesting Things: Waiting for meteors

I didn’t manage to see any Quadrantid meteors but at least did manage to get some good star shots with Susan’s new Canon camera.

Interesting things – Astronomy night 7/14/10

I took my scope out into the front yard to look at the Moon, Venus, Saturn and Mars as well as wait for an ISS passover.

Soon after dark I was able to get a good shot of the Moon and Venus together. Click through for larger versions.

A through the eyepiece shot of the Moon.

And finally, a shot of the ISS passing beyond the house. I got several shots but they all show a bit of movement at the beginning even though I thought I’d set a shutter delay.

Fun, fun, fun.

It was another fine day of beach-lounging and skorkeling.

There were some great underwater critter sightings such as a nice pale urchin and squid!

Susan later found an occupied conch shell and we ended the night with dinner in Red Hook

Eventually we went out and were accosted by critters looking for food

We did a bit of snorkeling, some kite flying and a whole lot of being lazy.

At the end of the evening we were rewarded with a great sunset.
