This report’s way overdue but here’s what we did last Nov in Rehoboth.
Ahhhh. The throbbing sensation in the feet that follows a full weekend of dancing. Wouldn’t trade it for just about anything.
Wait, I said that last year.
It’s still true though.
Now, on to this year’s dancing excursion.
Susan and I started by jetting off to DC this time. After landing we took the Metro
to the Zoo stop (which has the longest estalator we’ve ever been on
and met Dwayne and Margie before heading off to Rehoboth beach.
On the way there we made a pit stop for drinks and such and ran across the "Manlove" van. Um, what??!
Presumably someone’s last name but I was momentarily wondering if I’d landed in California.
After arriving at Rehoboth beach and settling in to the hotel we had our first view of the Ocean before killing some time wandering around town.
Once we’d checked in it wasn’t long before the first ceili began and we were stepping and battering and twirling about the floor.
The band was composed of John Whelan, Bernadette Fee, Laura Byrne, Jimmy Kelly and Felix Dolan.
The first night featured a lot of fun dancing to really good music. It was great to see people we’d met for the first time last year, a few we’ve seen at a few Comhaltas weekends as well as a couple that we’ve seen off and on since our first trip to Ireland.
The dancing went from 8pm to midnite after which Susan and I took our tired feet off to bed so we could be sure to be ready to dance all day on Saturday.
The next day started off with a hearty breakfast and the first workshop led my Padraig and Roisin McEneeny.
He first ran us through some basic footwork for the new people followed by some more complicated footwork before taking us through the Antrim Square Set. This is a nice easy to learn and dance set that should look good for demos which CRG will definitely have to do at our next demo.
Padraig followed this with the Aherlow Set, a break for lunch followed by the second workshop featuring the Tory Island Set and part of the Sliabh gCua set before we ran out of time for the day.
At some point during the workshop someone out in the crowd had a senior moment as observed by Padraig but Susan said it sounded like Padraig had said someone had had a senior movement. We were both glad it turned out not to be the latter.
We had a few hours after the workshops for relaxing, seeing some of the Sea Witch festival,
dinner and finally another ceili!
Clare Lancers! Woot!
Margie had an opportunity to capture a picture of their pet Pringles can on the dance floor (wearing a hat made by Susan).
I don’t know how many sets we danced. Most of them because it seemed that most were ones we had done before or they were sets we’d learned that day that Padraig called during the ceili. We both love it when someone calls a set because even with an unfamilar one we can figure most things out on the fly by listening to what’s coming up.
The night ended with us once again dragging our tired feet upstairs and soothing them from the inside with some Jack and Coke.
